Hidden Gem Hike in Encamp: A Scenic GR11 Route Full of History

On Easter Monday, we originally planned to hike at Coll d’Ordino with our daughters. However, we quickly realized there was still too much snow, and the area was crowded with day visitors. Instead of giving up, we decided to drive to Encamp—and that turned out to be the perfect decision.

A Flexible GR11 Adventure

One of the best things about the GR11 route is its flexibility. You don’t have to commit to long, multi-day hikes—you can simply enjoy shorter sections. We parked our car near Les Bons and started walking through the old village, gradually making our way uphill along a scenic part of the trail.

A Walk Through Nature and History

What makes this hike truly special is the unique mix of natural beauty and historical landmarks. Along the way, you’ll pass the charming Sant Romà de les Bons, the historic Torre dels Moros, ancient pilgrimage paths, small flowing streams, and—at least as far as we went—old, partially collapsed bordas hidden in the landscape.

Walking here feels like stepping back in time. Despite being relatively close to Encamp, the only sounds we heard were birds singing, horses grazing, and the gentle flow of water from nearby streams.

Why This Hike is Worth It

This route is perfect if you’re looking for a quieter alternative to the more popular hiking spots in Andorra. It combines accessibility with a strong sense of history and peaceful surroundings—ideal for families or anyone wanting a shorter but meaningful outdoor experience.

Tip

If it’s sunny bring a cap, sunscreen and enough water. There is almost no natural shade during the walk 🙂

Restaurant tips

After the hike it’s worth it to take a walk to the city centre of Encamp. You have plenty of bars, restaurants and playgrounds (if you took the hike with little ones:-))
